What’s Up with Acne?

Acne can affect patients of any age. It has many causes: inadequate skin care, diet, stress, hormone production, childbirth, menopause, or medications.

Acne care at Chelsea Skin & Laser starts with a discussion about diet, lifestyle and skin care routine. The process often begins by treating the surface of the skin with a topical antibiotic or retinoid. In more moderate or severe acne cases, antibiotic pills or an oral isotretinoin may be the best course of treatment.

Some effective solutions are easy. Create a simple, practical skin care routine and stick to it daily; avoid certain foods thought to trigger outbreaks; have us evaluate medications and products you currently use to be sure they are not contributing to the problem; clean phones, cell phones, headphones, make-up brushes daily so as not to transfer bacteria to the skin.

Chelsea Skin & Laser offers a medical facial with extractions or “acne surgery” to carefully remove clogs, cysts, black and whiteheads in conjunction with your topical or oral regimen.

We offer same day acne injections AKA a cortisone shot or a “quick hit” for individual spots. These help reduce swelling and inflammation. We inject diluted corticosteroid directly into your papule, nodule, cyst, zit. Within a few hours your pimple will start to diminish.

Once we have your acne under control, we may suggest a chemical peel, an IPL (Intense Pulse Light) laser treatment, ResurFX Fractionated Laser treatment or filler such as Juvederm or Restylane to help to help diminish discoloration, surface roughness or scarring.
